The Kilns

We at Benville take wood drying very seriously. Our goal is to have our customers leaving with their lumber properly dried and a smile on their face! A few of the species that we dry are: red oak, white oak (flat & quartersawn), cherry, walnut, hickory, poplar, maple, elm, & beech.

Here is a small insight as to how lumber is dried.

Step 1 Lumber is brought in by truck.

Step 2 All lumber is then restacked with small wooden sticks between the layers to allow for airflow.

Step 3 Lumber is set up in the yard to air dry for 2-10 months depending on the species and thickness.

Step 4 Lumber is loaded into a kiln, and is heated up to 140 degrees.

Step 5 After 2-5 weeks lumber is dry, unloaded from kiln, then restacked and banded for shipment.
